Trailer Park

Ever wonder who those people are who make the ominous sounding announcements during movie trailers, well here’s your chance.

Speaking of trailers, I recently came across music that I had blogged about earlier. I already knew that Clint Mansell’s Requiem for a Dream score had been used in the Lord of the Rings trailers. But I didn’t really notice how altered it was, with an added choir, Zimmeresque timpani hits, and what sounds like overdubbed strings. Anyways it sounds cool and even gave celebrated You Tuber Brookers something to score her hilarious ode to the Lays potato chip.

Every couple months there’s a new song that gets to be on ever movie trailer and commercial, etc. For a while it was Tomoyasu Hotei’s Battle Without Honor or Humanity, a song Tarantino popularized in Kill Bill and then started getting used or imitated in car commercials and everything else. For a while it was Oukast’s Hey Ya!, which I heard with mindnumbing frequency on TV commercials.

Today that distinction would probably go to Corinne Bailey Rae’s Put Your Records On. It’s got the feel-good, life is beautiful sound…which can even do wonders for a movie about elderly man falling in love with a 20-something woman. Check out how it works for this Venus trailer. Personally, the song itself sounds more chick flick to me, somewhere between Sex and the City and My Best Friend’s Wedding. But I won’t hold that against this catchy song.
