Robert Altman

Robert Altman

Robert Altman was one of the great iconoclasts in film, making films that were distinctly his style that examined the rich corners of life. The three absolutely essential films are The Player, Nashville, and M*A*S*H. In a prescient fashion, his swan song, A Prairie Home Companion, was about the prospect of loss and the end of an era, which his death is. And even if Oscar never named him best director, his honorary Oscar from earlier this year allowed the Hollywood community to acknowledge his immense influence before his truly time had passed.
