Grammys and Ponies

Congratulations to Osvaldo Golijov for not only winning Best Contemporary Classical Composition but also Best Opera!

In other news, one of the best reviewed films of last year was also one of the least talked about…

Yes, I’m talking about My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade! It is already at a 7.9 rating on IMDB, which was the result of over 1000 votes.

My Little Pony

But don’t take it from me. Here are some sample user comments:

“After the film was over, when the end credits started to appear… I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t move. I just stared at the screen as tears rolled down my face. I was astonished. After about two hours still sitting in my sit after the film was over, I then realized that I had possibly seen the greatest film of all time.”

“Wow, what a plot. I never thought I’d see a movie as controversial as A Clockwork Orange, but this movie was. How it uses the ugliest things of our world, incorporates them into the pony world, and brings the happiest and most heroic things from them, is amazing. The NC-17 rating was appropriate, but it uses the foul things of our world to show how much greater things can come from it through human beings. Through ponies.”

“Victor Dal Chele is the greatest filmmaker of our generation, and this is his masterpiece. Although I will most definitely see his upcoming outing, “Conan: Red Nails” in the theatre (maybe even twice) he will never be able to top this, his magnum opus, the most mindblowing debut film from an independent filmmaker since “Reservoir Dogs”.”

“After the ever enigmatic Terrence Malick dropped out of the project in 2005, industry leaders were skeptical about the film’s chances to even see the day of light, much less find a talent to do justice to the screenplay of My Little Pony: The Princess Promenade. That is, until the arrival of director Victor Dal Chele, who has established himself as one of great unplumbed talents, and an enigma in his own right. Clearly influenced by work of Bergman and Kubrick, Dal Chele brings spiritual depth and visual fluidity to the material, shaping the myriad talent around him into something that is truly revelatory. But will academy members mistake his existential ponderings for pretension? Frankly, I was blown away by the film and I truly believe it will usher in a new wave of cinema. Hopefully the academy won’t dismiss The Princess Promenade as just another piece of animated tripe because I would love to see it recognized among the likes of The Departed and The Queen. It may very well be the dark “pony” at the Oscars.”
