Deja Vu Paris
Paris, why don’t you leave me alone?
Not only do a spate of new American/British films take place there, but now there are no less than two films coming out in the near future which feature the City of Lights in their titles.

One is written, directed, acted, and scored by French actress (and Parisienne) Julie Dellpy. While actors’ vanity projects tend to wreak of ego, I’m more lenient on her, because she’s been in so many great movies. In fact, one of my favorite, Before Sunset (which also takes place in Paris), she actually co-wrote. Pas mal.
Her directoral debut is called 2 Days in Paris, and is about a European vacation where the American boyfriend, played by Adam Goldberg, gets driven crazy by his French girlfriend in Paris. Delpy always comes across as quite beautiful when she’s being very tough and unforgiving, like someone’s who’s been disillusioned one too many times but only because she loved too much to begin with. I’m really looking forward to this!

The second film is called Dans Paris, or en anglais…Inside Paris. I have no real connection to this film other than one of its stars, Romain Duris. He gave a good performance as the French student in Barcelona in L’auberge Espagnole (The Spanish Apartment). Here he’s depressed after the break up of his marriage. The film seems to have a nice mix of dark comedy and drama…the trailer is decidedly upbeat.
