Nina the Great
Nina Simone was born in America but died in France. She was one of the most inspiring figures in music, combining jazz, classical, soul, blues, soul, folk, and gospel. And unlike other great dames in music, she played her own piano arrangements since she studied it and actually wanted to become strictly a pianist. While we may not know a world with Nina Simone playing piano concertos with the leading orchestras of her time, we do know of the amazing survival that she had as an artist.
And I love this quote, “Jazz is a white term used to define Black people. My music is Black Classical Music.”

thank you, thank you, thank you, nina is one of my favorite artists, and this is my favorite song by her, but the other recordings of it just pale in comparison to this one.
i loved it dearly, and then my computer died, and i lost all my music, and have been seeeearrrrching for this song, and only found the other recordings which, could never suffice, so thank you again.
