A Little More Day Music
Some tracks I think are kind of interesting:

Above is Shelly Bhushan, a kind of sweet R&B singer who loves to belt it out. She contacted me personally while I was in Paris, and due to that, I will always associate her with that experience. I told her to send the disc, and when I got back, sure enough it was there. Truth be told, I was hoping that it at least had one or two decent songs. Well, the fact that I’m writing this at the top of the post kind of means that I actually think it’s mostly really good.
Earlier this year I went to a random Nikka Costa concert at Largo. It turned out to be a comeback concert of sorts, but it was random to me because I just went in without knowing who she was or expecting anything. Well, she blew me away, and I instantly recognized “Everybody got their something,” which was in an Applebee’s commercial. Anways, Shelly reminds me of Nikka’s voice and songwriting style (yes, Shelly gets lyrical and musical credits on most of her songs). The songs are generally soulful funky R&B that have brass orchestration and even strings.
Case in point: Beautiful Me is probably my favorite song of hers. It has kind of a standard female empowerment message, but the groove really gets me, and as I mentioned, I really dig the orchestration. And beware, it’s heavily catchy.
Dan Bejar of Destroyer and New Pornographers fame is collaborating with yet another creative partner: his girlfriend, singer Sydney Vermont. His unique vocal delivery is softened by her sweet caresses. Their duo is called Hello, Blue Roses. To be honest, I wasn’t the biggest fan of the latest NP album having loved their three previous ones. At least this looks promising if different.
Shadow Falls - Hello, Blue Roses
I had some whiskey over Thanksgiving weekend. This bluesy song kinda sounds like what whiskey would sound like if it could sing. Jack Daniels should license it immediately.
