J’aime le fromage
Cheese smells just as pungent in any other language. And is it any surprise that in the land of fine cheesemaking, France, the cheese stinks of camembert.
When people say France is rich in culture, they don’t mean pop culture. There the pop culture is just as shallow as American culture only not nearly as entertaining. We have Oprah, they have a show called “Is it sexy?” where people discuss if Jessica Alba is still sexy. We have “Are you smarter than a fifth grader?”, they have “Are you smarter than a 10 year old?” where the questions involve grammatical parts of speech. I’d be surprised if 10 year olds knew that. We have Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z, Britney Spears, etc., they have….well, nothing really. The pop music is bad bad bad (except for Daft Punk and Justice and occasionally Air too).
Well, anyways, I still love a good cheesy song when I hear it. And I heard this one when I was in high school French class. Mrs. Wright played this for us probably in order to appeal to us young people. While it most likely sounded outdated even then, I kind of dug it. In fact, listening to this today (and I had to really search for it rather than serendipitously come upon it) gives me nostalgic goosebumps.
