Is Alicia Keys Overrated?

Well, that’s the topic of debate, read:

And I tend to agree. Sure, she’s probably better for most of what passes for pop. And she’s got a decent voice.
But I am not truly wowed by Alicia Keys the songwriter. She pulls it off well, but “No One” comes off as a rather shallow song to me. Like that Killers song which sounded so great on the first listen and then started to grate, “No One” doesn’t offer much other than the immediate enjoyability of a well-produced pop track.
And although I didn’t see it, word is that she was pitchy on the Grammys.
Sorry, I know that there’s lots of Keys fans, perhaps including Bob Dylan. But far from hating her, I just think she’s okay and not as interesting as other similar artists including Mariah Carey.

No she’s not overrated at all….
You should Check out “Lesson Learned” and “Sure Looks Good To Me” also her first album and you’d see why she’s considered such a great songwriter

Do YOU sing, whoever you are bashing one of our great composers/writers/singers/philanthropists? Someone with 11 grammies???What do you do for a living? Probably some OVERRATED B.S.!

Yes, I do sing and write my own songs. What do you do?
I assume Alicia Keys sings so that people can make their own judgments about her singing and decide to like or dislike her. Like I said, sorry that I disagree with you, but it’s not my job to have opinions that please everyone.
And I agree with “Live Long” in that I may not know her more interesting work, so I will definitely check that out.

Susan, I would also like to add that my opinion about “No One” comes directly from engaging the music, playing along with it on the keyboard, and just being a bit underwhelmed by it. I know that it is a very emotionally immediate song, which is why I even took the time to check out how to play it. The lyrics are not particularly distinctive or original. If you had another argument besides attacking me, I’d like to hear it.

Bob Dylan wrote her into a song. BOB DYLAN. Now if you think Dylan is overrated, then this is meaningless to you. But still.

Dude, I mentioned that in the article…and no, Bob Dylan is NOT overrated. Geesh.
My question is whether he is attracted to her voice or to her songwriting prowess. The Slate article hypothesizes that it is her voice, the latest in a line of female black singers who have captured his imagination.
For the record, Bob Dylan also mentions a “Howard” in Highway 61 Revisited.

Alicia Keys is one of the talented artists. She is a neo soul singer, songwriter, pianist, record producer, actress, author…and more. Really she is a multitalented artist thus she has won numerous awards. As a singer, she has sold millions of albums during the last year of 2007. Her style has attracted and still attracting more people and the number of the artist’s lovers is expanding everyday. It is in her concerts that we notice Alicia’s great popularity. It becomes so hard to find a ticket or prices become unreasonable. A friend has recommended me a site where to compare ticket prices after then one would book where he finds the lowest prices.
