Lotsa Reich

Following the presentation at South By Southwest last month, Steve Reich is coming on strong in 2008 with at least three new things:
1. Today marks the Nonesuch release of Daniel Variations. The piece commemorates Daniel Pearl, who was kidnapped and killed as a journalist (and Jew) in Pakistan. Included is Variations for Vibes, Piano, and Strings. It is an excellent energetic piece of bouyant optimism.
2. Last month eighth blackbird gave the world premiere of Reich’s Double Sextet. They are touring it, and Socal people can check it out April 15th at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.
3. The upcoming Ojai Music Festival is featuring many of Reich’s major pieces including Tehilim, Drumming, Daniel Variations, Four Organs and Nagoya Marimbas. You also have a chance to sit in on a one-hour chat with Reich. They also have concerts celebrating the 100th anniversaries of Elliott Carter and Olivier Messiaen.
Don’t miss out!
