Dropping Hip Hop
Hip hop is a genre of pop culture that I rarely keep up with, but one that I remain steadfastly sympathetic to. It has a lot to do with growing up at a time when hip hop culture really came to the mainstream and the Top 40 featured all kinds of new superstars of the genre.
Well, the hip hop group GTA puts me back into the good old days of hip hop. While taking a cue from Kanye in terms of old school samples and sped up vocals, they also bring to the table what Kanye lacks, a convincing flow. I’m just happy to listen to any music that makes me genuinely happy, and this does.
One of GTA’s performers is Chima Anya (above), and his solo stuff is equally worth listening to…and probably makes me even happier. You see, the song “C” is also old school…but more on the 8-bit Nintendo tip. Yes, there’s nothing more nostalgic for me than hip hop and first generation Nintendo games combined…perfect.
