Out of LA

I don’t particularly like the movie Out of Africa. I mean, the fact that they use the slow movement from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto is a nice touch, but seriously Mozart will work wonders in pretty much any film context.

No…what sticks is the image of a plane flying over Africa. And what gives it power is the rose-colored romanticism of John Barry’s score that so adequately expresses the yearning for freedom, especially when it comes to travel. Which is probably why his music worked so well for the ultimate in romantic travelers, James Bond.
