My Girls

Animal Collective

My Girls may just be the song of the year…well, the only new one I listened to consistently anyway. Not because of any less opinion of the other music that emerged, but just out of being too busy. That and listening to lots of Mahler. For real.

Heck, I seriously doubt that it will be my song of the year when I enter my post-New Year (and New Decade) with a renewed desired to catch up to all the stuff I missed the first time around. Part of me doesn’t care to catch up, but then again, all it takes is one great song to bring back those flood gates of discovery. But for now, this is what I got and I’m going with it.

Animal Collective is one of the few bands that has done it for me equally in listening through speakers and live performance. If anything, the live show brought new levels of richness to the sound, the songwriting, and experiences of fragments of newer songs that were like bright shining moments of clarity.

Well, Merriweather Post Pavilion was good, but I don’t think anything can ever top Strawberry Jam. I’m sentimental that way. Anyways, here’s a My Girls cover.
