Thar Be Plunder in Ye Soundtrack

Hans Zimmer, like all good film composers, steals from the best in his score for Pirates of the Caribbean 2. Well, he stole some of his melodies from Klaus Bedelt’s earlier score for the first Pirates movie, but then again, Bedelt probably stole his stuff from the best as well.

 Need some proof?

In the “Jack Sparrow” track on Zimmer’s score, he quotes Bedelt quoting Mozart.

Mozart’s Requiem becomes a bumbling Pirates theme.

Or how about when Zimmer quotes Rimsky Korsakov’s Scheherezade. This is nothing to be concerned about since the quotation he uses is appropriate…Sinbad on his ship sailing the seven seas.

Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherezade becomes a rousing Pirates theme.
